I want to purchase my first Moi-meme-Moitie item but I don't know where to start! What should I do?
From my experience there seems to be a lot of confusion and questions when it comes to starting your own Moi-meme-Moitie collection.
Where do you go? Who can you trust? How can you obtain the items you're looking for? How much does it cost? How do you know you will actually FIT into a Moi-meme-Moitie piece?

The first step is to do your research and know what you're getting into. Moi-meme-Moitie is a brand name shop created by Mana within the Lolita FASHION. Fashion, meaning a clothing style defined by its unique attributes that goes along with its own special set of guidelines. While some people may want to explore the Lolita fashion as a whole, others may simply be interested in wearing the brand as casual or for a special event. No matter what your objective is, there is one thing for certain that is crucial to look into -- sizing.

Size

Moi-meme-Moitie is significantly limited in size. Just like many other Lolita brands are becoming universally known and recognized, so is Moi-meme-Moitie. However unlike larger brand name lolita companies who are expanding globally, Moi-meme-Moitie's main focus is still on the Japanese market.
While many times foreign customers may feel cheated out in this way, we must consider the fact that Moi-meme-Moitie is made up of two small boutiques in Japan -- one in Tokyo and the other in Sendai. In fact, Moi-meme-Moitie in Tokyo is fused with a larger shop known as "Kera Shop Angel" which carries items from an array of brand name gothic and lolita companies. To say the least, Moi-meme-Moitie caters to a small group of people even within Tokyo, so it is not particularly logical for them to take chances on expanding the line and sizes to meet the needs of foreigner customers when the demand still isn't particularly high enough to globalize as much as they probably like.

When considering sizing of items, be honest with yourself. Skirst and pants are not often very giving at the hips and waist and similar problems can arise in dresses and blouses at the bust line.
Moi-meme-Moitie typically sells items of two distinct sizes: Size 2 and "Man" Size. Ocassionally you may be able to find items at size 3 but it is becoming a rarity.
Yes, the sizing IS small, however this type of sizing may be different from what you are used to. The best way to figure out if you can fit into a Moitie item is to measure yourself in comparison to the sizes listed on the official website.

Click on the following screen captions to view full scale examples of how to identify item sizes:

Example of a Size 2 EGL Blouse

Example of a Size 2 JSK (Jumper skirt)

Example of a Size 2 Skirt

Example of a Man Size Blouse

Example of Man Size Pants

While there are many more items sold at Moi-meme-Moitie and listed than there are screen capped examples on this website, these examples are used to point out where to find and identify measurements of clothing on the official Japanese website. Sometimes measurements are provided on websites that sell items Internationally (in English), but if by chance you are having difficulty finding such information, your best reference is on the official Japanese website. If you are in need to find a measurement from the Japanese website, remember these are the basic kanji used to define measurements:
@wN0ÿ0Length
Ð0¹0È00ÿ0Bust
©€E^0ÿ0Shoulder Length
–ˆN0ÿ0Sleeve Length
¦0¨0¹0È00ÿ0Waist
þˆE^0ÿ0(pants) Cuff Width

As I mentioned before, many items do not give much room for stretch. This factor is determined by the type of materials used on a garment of clothing. However, I should also note that some items DO stretch a few centimeteres beyond what is posted. These items generally consist of one piece dresses and jumper skirts with shirring and/or elastic waists. Shirring is a type of gathered material at the bust of a dress. Sometimes Moi-meme-Moitie sells several pieces where the entire top of a dress is completely made out of shirring, easily giving the dress room to stretch several centimeteres past what the website lists. Many Empire waist dresses sold at Moi-meme-Moitie have an elastic waist line. This can be identifed if the waist is moved up closer to the bust and the stock photo shows a ribbon or bow wrapped around the hightened waist line. The ribbons are generally detachable and underneath is an elastic waist creating ease for a comfortable amount of extra stretch.

Another important tidbit of information is a definition of terms commonly used with Moi-meme-Moitie items westerners may or may not be familiar with. They are as follows:

EGL = A term coined by Mana typically used for more feminen style clothing such as dresses, blouses, and above knee skirts at Moi-meme-Moitie. It means "Elegant Gothic Lolita".
EGA = A term coined by Mana typically used for more masculine style clothing such as blouses, pants, below knee skirts, capes, and jackets at Moi-meme-Moitie. It means "Elegant Gothic Aristocrat".
EGM = A term coined by Mana typically used for small items such as headdresses, socks, handkerchiefs, bags/purses, accessories and small items at Moi-meme-Moitie. It means "Elegant Gothic Miscellaneous".
OP = One Piece Dress (a stanard dress with sleeves)
JSK = Jumper skirt (a dress either without sleeves or small straps over the shoulders)
Cutsew = A standard shirt design that is typically more simplistic than a blouse. It may slide over the head or use a zipper rather than button up.
Pannier= undergarments - A slip or petticoat used under EGL dresses to create the standard bell-shape of the skirt portion of a dress. Bloomers can also be considered pannier which are used to cover the legs underneath a dress or skirt.
GYK = Abbreviation for a combination of the shades Gray and Black
BK = Abbreviation for the shade Black
BKN = Abbreviation for a combination of the colors Black and Navy
BL = Abbreviation for the color Blue
OW = Abbreviation for the shade Off White
IV = Abbreviation for Ivory
BKOW = Abbreviation for Black and Off White

Cost

The second most important consideration to take in when purchasing Moi-meme-Moitie is the price.
For most foreigners (and even Japanese nationals) Moi-meme-Moitie is an expensive investment. The prices of clothing are not meant to discourage buyers but are a simple fact of typical Tokyo brand name pricing. Most clothing items will set you back anywhere from 20,000 - 50,000 yen more or less. This is equivalent to $200 - $500 USD or 160 - 400 EU. If you do not see pricing in you're country, check out www.xe.com for up to date currency exchange. Naturally prices will vary from item to item. Every winter Moitie releases special "X-mas" items in September or October for pre-order only. These items are typically shipped in Mid-late November or Early December and are generally much more expensive than typical shop items. Each X-mas order item costs nearly AT LEAST 50,000 yen but can cost as much as 90,000 yen. Each item is specifically made for order so there is no release date to purchase these items in the shop. The main point is, consider what your budget is when you are thinking about purchasing Moi-meme-Moitie clothes. Small items such as headdresses and socks are generally under 10,000 yen while everything else is going to cost double or more of that price.

Where To Go

There are a number of places you can purcahse Moi-meme-Moitie clothes. For beginners it is recommended to purchase items from International shops on the internet. These stores include:

Moi-meme-Moitie: CDJapan
Moi-meme-Moitie: MaruiOne

However, if you are interested in checking out the newest updates, its best to check out the Official Japanese Moi-meme-Moitie website:

Moi-meme-Moitien

*Note - While you may freely look at the Japanese Moi-meme-Moitie website, they do not ship items abroad. The only way to get around this is through a shopping service, which I will get to under the "advanced" portion of the shopping guide.

-------------------------

Advanced Purchasing

So you've already purchased you're first Moi-meme-Moitie or perhaps multiple other items. However, there are many older items out there that will never be sold at the Official Moi-meme-Moitie shop again or some items are being sold only on the Japanese websites that you really wish to buy. What do you do?

The simple answer is to check out second hand shops and auction websites that may offer those older items and rare items. If you're looking for an item that is being sold on a Japanese website that does NOT ship abroad, it is easiest to use a shopping service to obtain the item you're looking for. However, be forwarned, many extra fees are generally applied when using shopping services. Most places charge extra fees for their service, shipping the item from the seller/shop to the service in Japan AND shipping from Japan to your country. There is unfortunately no way around these extra fees, unless you have extremely nice friends living in Japan who are willing to help you out. For those who do need to use shopping services to purchase items from websites that do not ship abroad, two popular shopping services many people rely on are <a href=http://www.celga.com/"">Celga, Inc. and Crescent Shop. Before using these services, be sure to check all information listed carefully so you fully understand all fees that apply and how the process of using a shopping service actually works. Both shops have detailed information on how to use their services and calculate the total price of your item.

If you are interested in searching and purchasing Moi-meme-Moitie items from other websites than the official websites listed above, here is an extensive list of links to websites that sell Moi-meme-Moitie:

Japanese Websites:
MaruiOne (Jp)

First Hand, but not official Moi-meme-Moitie shops:
http://www.home.versatel.nl/huisman170/mfashion/product2.htm (Eu)

Second Hand shops (Japan)*:
Closet Child
Fairy Angel
Tokyo Alice
Furunrun

Second Hand (abroad):
Clothing Drop (En -- sometimes there is no Moitie there, but occasionally you can find a few pieces at lower prices)
Taobao (ch)

Auction websites (Japan and Abroad):**
Ebay (EN)
Yahoo!
